Fri., Oct 3:
Book Launch with Kevin Reeves
Somewhere in France. 7:30-9 Royal Canadian Legion Branch 23, First Ave in North Bay. This book started as a gift for his parents, but by popular demand it has been reproduced for the public. It tells the story in letters and photos of the war hero Dave Reeves, grandfather of the author. He dropped a letter in North Bay as the train passed through en route to the battlefields of WWI, asking for someone to write to him. The book describes not only his wartime service but also his love story: he married the girl from North Bay who wrote to him. The book contains much information and photographs of the building of the Vimy Memorial, with details of North Bay veterans’ participation in the original dedication service. Many early photos of North Bay make this of local as well as national interest.

Sat., Nov 15
Book Launch with (formerly) local Kerry Kelly 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Please join us to celebrate the release of Kerry’s first novel, The Year She Left. Described as literary fiction (means it’s well-written!), this is a story about loss, confusion, anger, vulnerability, and hopelessness, in other words, a love story. The book explores with humour and a critical eye the motives of those who want to change themselves. Is it a happy ending? Define happy.
Kerry began writing (in North Bay) at the age of three. She has been a professional web and print writer since 1998. Her byline has appeared in the Toronto Star, Now Magazine, Calgary Herald, Sudbury Star, and the North Bay Nugget. Her writing covers a broad range of political, social, and economic issues. She currently lives in Toronto, and we are delighted that she has asked Gulliver’s to host her book launch.
